Magic Flute Studio
Magic Flute Studio Lesson Policy - Fall 2007
To provide a positive educational and musical environment in which a student may master the flute in all Western tradition styles.
Payment:
Tuition is due at the last lesson of each month for the following month. A $5.00 per week, late fee will be added on the 1st of the month. Please make checks payable to GINA HART-KEMPER. Remember that paying your tuition promptly reserves your lesson time each month.
Tuition for the school year is divided into 9 equal payments from September 1, 2006 through May 27, 2007 regardless of any absences or holidays. Tuition is not based upon the number of lessons in any given month, and there is no refund for missed lessons. Each student receives a set number of lessons between September and May (15 per semester). There is a SWAP LIST available for students. This provides the opportunity to receive all scheduled classes. There are no deductions in tuition for special vacations or extra absences that occur during the school year.
- 30 minute lessons for 30 weeks
- Pay for half of each semester (15 weeks) up front for $360.00
- or

There are no refunds.
Attendance/Cancellations:
Any student wishing to change their lesson for any reason is able, provided another student is willing to swap their lesson with them. Students who swap their lessons must notify the instructor within 24 hours of the lesson. If a student cannot attend the lesson and cannot arrange a swap, the lesson is forfeited. If the instructor is unable to attend a lesson, the instructor will arrange for a substitute teacher or make up the lesson.
If you decide to quit lessons, I would appreciate one months notice.

Summer Lessons: TBA
Group Lessons: TBA
For the past few summers I’ve been getting wonderful feedback on the group lessons. I will offer GENERAL GROUP LESSON(S) on the following dates.
This is a great way to get in extra lessons at no charge OR make up missed lessons.
Regular attendance at lessons is how progress is made.
Studio Suggestions:
Taking music lessons is an important part of the development of any young musician but let’s not forget the importance of also going to concerts. I encourage each of you to attend at least one classical music concert per year. I continue to be amazed at the number of students and adults who have never attended a professional Symphony or flute concert.
- One (1) Professional Symphony Concert (preferably not a “Pop’s” concert).
- One (1) Professional Flute Concert
Recitals:
These recitals are casual and are meant to be FUN! I would encourage every one of you to take the opportunity to showcase your talent and hard work with your family and friends. If your recital piece requires piano, then you will need to make arrangements to rehearse with the accompanist before the recital. The cost of a one (1) hour rehearsal is usually around $35.00. The accompanist fee for the day of the recital is included in the tuition that you pay.
Recital date is TBA.
PRACTICING:
Practicing does not come naturally to us. However, practicing is just as important as the lesson itself. You will find that it usually works best if you have a regular time to sit down and play each day. Other tips would include: use your assignment page as a practice guide, when you “just hate” one of your assignments try and play some of it every day even if only a measure or two, make sure to work through those measures which are difficult, be sure and get through all of the assigned music, sometimes your schedule can be very busy and it can be hard to find much time for practicing try to spend at least ten minutes a day, playing through everything at least once, and finally, ask a parent or friend to sit with you and listen to you play at least once a week. The general rule of thumb for practice time is: if you take a 30min. lesson, you should practice 30 minutes each day; if you take a 50min. lesson, you should practice 50 minuets per day.
General Information:
Parent involvement is highly recommended. Encourage your child to perform for others. Relatives and friends make wonderful audiences, and playing at church or school can be very rewarding. Take advantage of the cultural opportunities in your area and attend as many concerts as possible. You can usually find a complete listing of events in the paper. You can also contact the area Universities and Symphonies to be put on a mailing list to receive an arts calendar usually free of charge. Listen to all types of music.
